Comedian Nasra Yusuf Under Fire After Posting Comedic Video Depicting Muslim Men During Iftar

Written by on 27 March 2024

NAIROBI, Kenya, March 27- Renowned comedian Nasra Yusuf has faced criticism following the release of a comedic video portraying Muslim men during Iftar.

The video, implying that Muslim men prioritize sexual satisfaction before other activities during Iftar, received backlash from a significant portion of Nasra’s predominantly Muslim fanbase.

In the one-minute clip, Nasra assumes the role of a Muslim man seated on a couch while her ‘wife’ serves snacks for breaking the fast.

Kuja nikuonyeshe kitu utaanza nayo… Ngoja, sio hii pande. Nakuonyeshea bedroom, ” Nasra’s character says.

“Lakini wewe iko sawa? Sindio? Iko sawa kabisa? Kila kitu iko pahali yake? Ama turudi?”

Despite Nasra’s apparent amusement, the video failed to elicit laughter from much of her audience. Many fans accused her of trivializing and disrespecting her own religion, particularly during the sacred Ramadan season.

Critics condemned the clip as ‘unfunny’ and criticized Nasra for excessively sexualizing a religious subject. Some fans expressed disappointment and called for more respectful comedy.

Nasra responded to the backlash by thanking those who appreciated her work and acknowledging that not all content will appeal to everyone. She encouraged viewers to explore other comedians within Kenya’s diverse comedic community.
