NAIROBI, Kenya ,February 28- A woman of middle age has been hospitalized at Naivasha Level 4 Hospital following an assault by her estranged husband, who poured boiling water on her and stabbed her abdomen with a knife.

The shocking incident took place in Kayole estate, resulting in the victim’s internal organs being exposed and her back suffering from severe burns.

Pauline Wanjiku, the victim, disclosed that her husband, formerly an AP officer now employed by Nakuru County government, has since fled after the attack, during which he had been making threats to her family.

Recounting the events from her hospital bed, Wanjiku stated that her husband, arriving home intoxicated, without any provocation, boiled water and poured it on her after an argument.

She was fortunate to be rescued by neighbors, but now lives in fear as the assailant, who had also sought treatment at the hospital, managed to escape. Wanjiku’s mother, Regina Njeri, emphasized that this was not the first time the husband had assaulted her daughter.

Peter Njihia, the victim’s brother, described the husband as extremely dangerous, particularly when under the influence of alcohol, noting his history of previous arrests.

John Kinuthia, representing Naivasha Gender-Based Networking Cluster, reported a surge in gender-based violence cases, with over ten incidents recorded since the beginning of the year.

Gender-based activists have expressed alarm at the increasing rate of domestic violence in the town, particularly affecting informal settlements.
