NAIROBI, Kenya, January 23- Two individuals, William Ovie Opia and Johnbull Asbor, both Nigerian nationals, have been apprehended in relation to the murder of Rita Waeni in Kasarani, Kenya.

The suspects were discovered to be residing in Kenya without legal documentation, as Opia’s passport had expired, and Asbor lacked any valid travel documents.

Upon their arrest, law enforcement uncovered a hatchet, a butcher knife, and other items at the suspects’ residence. Additionally, six mobile phones, three laptop computers, mobile phone SIM cards, and a Kenyan identity card were seized by the detectives.

One of the suspects claimed to have purchased the hatchet online for personal protection, and investigators suspect that Opia procured the weapon from the same online vendor linked to the unidentified murder suspect who remains at large.

The suspects are currently under an eight-day detention period to facilitate ongoing investigations, and they are expected to remain in custody until January 31, 2024.

The police are treating the case as a murder investigation, expressing concerns about the suspects being flight risks due to their lack of a fixed residence and proper travel documentation.

Simultaneously, forensic scientists from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are working to identify a human head discovered at Kiambaa Dam, in close proximity to the arrest location of the two suspects. Detectives believe that the severed head might belong to Rita Waeni, whose dismembered body was found in a rented apartment in Roysambu, with the head missing.

In addition to the head, authorities recovered various items, including a mobile phone, from the vicinity. Notably, a stone found within the bag suggests a deliberate effort to submerge it, indicating a sinister intent by the perpetrator.
