NAIROBI, Kenya, April 20- Police have unveiled a video featuring a suspect believed to have committed the murder of university student Rita Waeni in an Airbnb, allegedly dismembering her and removing her head.
The footage depicts a slender young man, appearing to be in his late 20s and sporting dark glasses, walking alongside the fourth-year student.
Members of the Kenyan community on X platform are rallying together to ensure justice prevails, disseminating the video in hopes of identifying the individual.
Investigators have linked the January 13 killing to occult practices. Following a postmortem examination, Waeni’s parents identified her head, which was discovered in a dam in Kiambu.
Waeni, a fourth-year student, is seen standing to the right of the suspect, who donned a white baseball cap, black jeans, a black pullover, and white shoes.
One frame from the video captures a fleeting moment where the suspect appears to be smiling, although his face is mostly concealed by the low-brimmed cap and dark glasses, making identification challenging.
Despite the national shock caused by the murder, no arrests have been made.
Waeni was laid to rest in a private ceremony at her parents’ residence in Mukimwani village, Kisau location, Makueni county, on February 5th.
