Netizens Outraged Over Delayed School Reopening Announcement by the Ministry of Education

Written by on 29 April 2024

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 29 – The decision by the Ministry of Education to delay the reopening of schools has caused anger among Kenyans, who are frustrated by the timing of the announcement.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu issued a statement about the postponement, which was posted on the Ministry’s official social media account at 1:20 am on Monday, April 29, 2024.

Many Kenyans expressed their dissatisfaction on different social media platforms, criticizing the Ministry for making the announcement late at night and questioning its practicality.

Here are some of the comments;

@jumaf3Most kids had already boarded Matatus on Sunday so that they can go to school today. CS Machogu has been since the floods since a week plus ago. We have been shouting for him to postpone the reopen. He wakes up on Monday 2am and does that. Not even Moi had such fools!
@iamennohCS Machogu is here to remind Kenyans that they’ll never get a CS like Fred Matiangi.
@BiancaNaom1CS Machogu and the entire Ministry of Education suffer from communication deficiency syndrome! How do you postpone school openings to a later date on the morning of school opening day? Why does the MOE pretend that every Kenyan in this country has a radio, phone, or TV to get this crucial information within a minute? The incompetence in the Ministry of Education stinks to high heavens.
@LilithBlack25CS Machogu should have postponed school opening dates way earlier rather than today. Most parents and students aren’t even aware of this . Talk about incompetence by birth in this country. Shame!
@Ammar_Kassim8 – Is CS Machogu aware that boarding school students had gone back to school yesterday by 6 pm? What happens to these kids? Kuna wazazi hadi walikopesha fare ndio mtoto aende shule. This Government should STOP playing with our lives. Olund!
