NAIROBI, Kenya, April 29- Heavy flash floods in Kamuchiri Village, Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, have resulted in the loss of forty two lives and the destruction of numerous homes, according to reports from the Kenya Red Cross.

The floods, triggered by heavy rains, were caused by a nearby river overflowing its banks on Sunday night.

Naivasha police commander Stephen Kirui confirmed the tragic incident, adding that several individuals have been rushed to Naivasha Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Simultaneously, motorists traveling on the Mai Mahiu-Suswa/Narok highway and the Mai Mahiu-Naivasha road are advised to seek alternative routes due to debris obstructing the roads following Sunday night’s heavy downpour.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) issued a warning on Monday, alerting drivers to anticipate heavy traffic and impassable conditions along these routes.

KENHA attributed the debris and flooding to intense rainfall in the Kinale and Kijabe catchment areas, resulting in watercourses overflowing and causing damage to nearby homes.
