NAIROBI, Kenya, April 22 – Transport Minister Kipchumba Murkomen revealed the identity of the owner of a Mercedes Benz caught on camera flouting regulations on Mombasa Road.

Through a social media post, the Minister disclosed the vehicle’s owner, a Nairobi resident, and pledged to take appropriate action.

Additionally, he shared a video clip depicting two seemingly intoxicated passengers recklessly hanging out of the windows, endangering themselves and others on the road.

Expressing dismay at the passengers’ risky behavior, Murkomen highlighted their apparent attempt to provoke a response from authorities.

The Minister directly addressed the owner of the vehicle, highlighting the irresponsible manner in which their white Mercedes Benz E-250 was being driven.

The video’s background commentary expressed concern for the passengers’ safety, criticizing their reckless actions fueled by alcohol.

These incidents occurred despite the recent launch of the National Road Safety Action Plan 2024-2028 by the Ministry of Transport, aimed at curbing the alarming rate of road accidents, which claim over 4,500 lives annually.

Referring to the Road Traffic Act, the article noted that those found guilty of road traffic misdemeanors could face imprisonment for up to two years or fines. The Act also specifies fines for drivers and passengers hanging their arms outside windows, set at Ksh1,000.
