NAIROBI, Kenya, April 17- Patients relying on public healthcare services will experience a prolonged wait as the Attorney General has requested an additional 30 days to address the ongoing standoff with striking doctors.

During a court appearance before Justice Byrum Ongaya, Advocate Ochieng Oduol, representing the Attorney General’s office, indicated that progress had been made in the discussions.

However, Oduol noted a logistical challenge arising from the Council of Governors’ delay in providing the necessary figures pertaining to minimum safety services.

He emphasized that a national reconciliation report had recommended all involved parties, including the Council of Governors, referral hospitals, the union, and other stakeholders, to continue negotiations tailored to each county’s circumstances.

“AG is cognisant of the delicate balance required especially in the provision of medical services. We request you grant court time to continue engaging as the resolution of the matters at hand is key and fundamental,” he said.

“We request for 30 more days to finalise the exercise. It’s only a solution that’s amicably negotiated in good faith will provide a lasting solution to a peaceful industrial environment in this sector,” he added.
