NAIROBI, Kenya, January 16- The shocking murder of a 20-year-old student in Roysambu, Nairobi County, on January 14 has stunned Kenyans. The victim was dismembered, with the suspect escaping with the head.

The main suspect, a Nigerian national, was apprehended attempting to flee the country via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Abuja.

The incident sparked heated debate, with many Kenyans condemning the developments. Amid the discussions, some shared a police report allegedly from the suspect, claiming he confessed to luring and killing over 70 women for body parts sold in the black market.

However, a fact-check revealed that the incident described in the circulating police report took place in Nigeria in November 2022. Two ritualists were arrested by the Osun State police, seizing various female body parts from their premises.

According to the report, the ritualists enticed women with money and gifts before committing the heinous acts in lodgings. The suspects confessed to using cash, fancy cars, and gifts to lure victims before harvesting body parts, which were then sold on the black market for about Ksh106,000 (N600,000) per victim.

In Kenya, women are now urged to exercise caution when meeting strangers in rental apartments to avoid falling victim to serial killers. This recent murder is the second reported within a week in rental apartments, following the discovery of Starlet Wahu’s body on January 6 in South B.

To address this alarming trend, the government has announced new measures, including guests surrendering identification documents at entrances and ensuring functional CCTV cameras in buildings.
