Njugush Brushes off Jua Cali’s Critique, Focuses on Success

Written by on 11 July 2023

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 11- Comedian and content creator Njugush, also known as Timothy Kimani, has responded to musician Jua Cali’s recent remarks suggesting that Njugush should focus on producing skits rather than pursuing stand-up comedy.

Njugush expressed his gratitude towards his devoted fan base, acknowledging their support throughout his comedy journey, including his comedy special series “Through Thick & Thin (TTNT) 1.”

Regarding Jua Cali’s comments, Njugush remained unfazed, recognizing that art is subjective and that everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

He stated, “He mentioned that I am his boy, but we have only met once. However, it’s fine. It’s his sentiment, and everyone has their own opinion. His perspective doesn’t hinder me from encouraging Kenyans to watch TTNT 1 to 4.”

Nevertheless, Njugush raised a question about Jua Cali’s judgment, wondering how the musician concluded that he lacked humor years after Njugush had already delved into stand-up comedy. The comedian shared that he had encountered similar criticism throughout his career but had consistently proven his critics wrong by surpassing their expectations.

Njugush proudly highlighted the success of his comedy specials, emphasizing how TTNT 1, 2, 3 & 4 were all sold-out shows, not only in Kenya but also in the UK and Australia. He acknowledged the challenges of selling out shows abroad, demonstrating the extent of his accomplishment.

Recalling past experiences, Njugush mentioned the skepticism he faced when he transitioned from acting on TV to becoming a content creator. Despite doubts from others, his popular show “Real House helps of Kawangware” became a hit. Additionally, he pointed out the flourishing success of digital content creators who are now securing endorsements from corporate entities.

Jua Cali, after receiving a wave of defense for Njugush, took to Twitter to apologize for his initial tweet, stating,

“Fans of Njugush and Njugush himself, I sincerely apologize if my tweet came across harshly. It was not my intention. I appreciate Njugush’s skits; they are amazing. Stand-up comedy is a different ballgame, but with practice, NJUGUSH will become one of the greats. Let’s come together because stand-up is an art form that requires patience and plenty of resources, just like the music industry. If done right, there’s a lot of potential for success! Let’s collaborate and make it happen. Have a good day, everyone.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฟ”
