NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6- The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) has declared the shutdown of a segment of United Nations Avenue in Runda due to flooding.

According to a statement released on Monday, the Authority cited the increasing water levels on the road as the reason for closure, a consequence of intense rainfall experienced on Sunday night.

“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority regrets to inform the public that UN-Avenue, Runda has been closed due to the rising water levels on the road following the heavy downpour experienced last night.

“The sections affected are between off Ruaka Road roundabout and Magnolia close. (The Lord Erroll Restaurant).” Kura said.

Motorists were advised by Kura to seek alternative routes for their journeys, with assurances of continuous monitoring of the situation.

The recent heavy rains in Nairobi and nationwide have resulted in significant property damage and loss of lives. Consequently, roads have been shut down among other precautionary measures implemented by the government to ensure public safety.

Additionally, residents have been advised to relocate to higher and safer areas due to home flooding concerns.
