Discontent Among Moi University Students as Graduation Ceremony Postponed From June to December 2024

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 11- Some Moi University students in Eldoret have expressed discontent following the university’s decision to postpone its graduation ceremony to December.

The students criticized the institution’s choice, stating that it was adversely affecting their lives.

“We joined the university under the 2019 cohort and finished our classes in December 2023, after which we were told we would graduate in June 2024. But now we are being told the graduation has been pushed to December due to a lack of funds,” they said.

The students voiced their concern, highlighting that the institution’s decision would result in receiving their completion certificates in 2025.

“So imagine you join a university for a four-year course but get your certificate after six years. It’s concerning, you call your parents, and they think you never cleared the fees. It’s really frustrating. A whole year wasted (January – Dec 2023) because most of the students especially from school of education have incomplete transcripts, so they cannot use them anywhere,” they said.
