Survivor Sharon Kosgey Recalls Moments Before Kevin Kiptum’s Fatal Accident

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 16- The recent tragic incident involving the untimely deaths of Kenyan Marathon and World Record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his coach on Sunday, February 11, continues to deeply affect many.
Efforts from the government and other sympathizers are underway to support Kiptum’s widow and children during this challenging period.
The sole survivor of the accident, Sharon Kosgey, has provided a statement to the police as investigations into the cause of the crash persist. Sharon recounted the moments leading up to the fatal collision, emphasizing that the vehicle appeared to be in good condition with no apparent issues prior to the accident.
She disclosed that she alerted Kiptum, who was driving, when the vehicle began veering off the road. Despite efforts, Kiptum was unable to correct the course before it was too late.
Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are diligently gathering further details regarding Kiptum’s final moments from witnesses. Once the investigation is concluded, the findings will be shared with the public.
President William Ruto has directed experts to construct a three-bedroom house for Kiptum’s family before his scheduled burial on February 24. The construction will commence soon after consultations with the family to ensure timely completion.
Kiptum’s widow mentioned to the media that his last promise was to provide a home for his family, and he had already made architectural plans for it.
As part of the investigation, detectives have interviewed three unidentified individuals who visited Kiptum’s family days before his passing, claiming to represent a Chinese company interested in collaborating with the marathon star. These individuals assert that their intentions were genuine and aimed at benefiting Kiptum’s family.
