Three Men Arrested For Suspiciously Visiting Athlete Kevin Kiptum Days Before His Death Now Explain their Intentions

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 15- The four individuals who reportedly visited marathoner Kelvin Kiptum shortly before his untimely death have spoken up regarding their purpose at his house.
Three of these men were apprehended on Wednesday, February 14th, disclosing that their visit was business-related.
Samson Cheruiyot, Kiptum’s father, admitted that about four unidentified men visited his son’s home the day prior to the fatal incident. He expressed to the press that these individuals did not properly introduce themselves.
In an interview with Citizen TV, Cheruiyot revealed that the group had initially appeared at their residence four days earlier in search of Kiptum, purportedly claiming affiliation with the State House.
However, they failed to provide any identification to substantiate their assertion. Consequently, Cheruiyot has urged the government to launch an investigation into his son’s demise.
Following their arrest, the men and their legal representative addressed the media, refuting Cheruiyot’s account of their visit.
One of the suspects maintained that they did identify themselves to Samson Cheruiyot and even took official photographs to demonstrate the nature of their visit. The individuals, hailing from Uasin Gishu county, were identified by the police upon their apprehension.
“I happen to have gone to the deceased home na tukawa na discussions mzuri sana. I even prayed we spoke na mwisho baba wa Kiptum pia akawa mtu wa mwisho kuomba. We were served tea, na tulikuwa na mazungumzo ambayo ilikuwa mzuri sana So after that I gave him my number and then after that, we took pictures outside the home. I was very shocked when I heard that that we were strangers”
One of the suspects recounted their interaction with Kiptum’s family, describing it as amicable. He expressed shock upon learning that their visit had been portrayed as suspicious in the media.
Another suspect speculated that perhaps Cheruiyot’s recollection was clouded by grief. Nonetheless, they emphasized their willingness to cooperate with the authorities, underscoring their innocence in the matter.
