NAIROBI, Kenya, February 22 – The Eldoret High Court has rejected a request to halt the burial of Kelvin Kiptum, the World Marathon record holder, which was made by a 22-year-old woman asserting that she shares a child with the athlete.

Justice Wananda dismissed the plea put forth by Edna Owuor, represented by her attorney Joseph Oyaro, to halt the burial proceedings.

Owuor alleges that she and Kiptum have a child aged one year and seven months, whose rights could be infringed upon if the burial proceeds without her involvement.

Appearing in court with the child, Owuor argued that she had not been included in the funeral arrangements and requested DNA testing to confirm paternity.

Justice Wananda acknowledged the substantial costs and extensive planning already invested in the burial arrangements, deeming it unjust to disrupt the interment process.
