Embu Teacher Commits Suicide After Rejection from his Ex-Girlfriend Asks to be Buried on February 14 Valentines Day

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 8- A teacher in Embu County took his own life on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, following rejection by his romantic partner.
In a suicide note, the young teacher expressed his frustration over his lover’s decision to be with another person, saying he couldn’t bear to see her with someone else.
He requested to be laid to rest on Valentine’s Day, February 14, and expressed his loss, mentioning failed attempts to save the relationship.
Despite his pleas falling on deaf ears, he left contact information for his lover, asking that she deliver his eulogy.
The deceased also instructed his family to locate a child he fathered with another woman in a nearby village and ensure the child’s welfare.
He designated his property to be inherited by this child through the elders of his clan. Additionally, he left a photograph for the funeral program, naming two Meru county assembly members to lead the arrangements.
According to police reports, the teacher’s death was attributed to depression, exacerbated by failed attempts to reconcile with his partner.
Authorities stressed the importance of seeking professional help for relationship issues and emphasized the criminality of suicide, urging the public to utilize resources like the Kenya Red Cross for assistance.
